Andy worked as an MD in Edmonton for several decades establishing a highly successful chain of primary-care clinics. The 80s and early 90s were focused on raising a family and growing the business, but by the late 90s, he was ready to move careers in to another great passion - wine. Andy gained experience working at wineries in Tuscany (Villa Delia), Australia (McGuigan Wines), France (Chateau de Terride), and New Zealand (Trinity Hill, Escarpment). Lured by its dry summer and subtropical-Mediterranean climate, Andy settled in the Cowichan Valley. Having grown up on a Welsh hill farm, Andy's return to his agricultural roots has proven to be a natural transition. His favourite place to be is in the vineyard, pruning vines by hand with the rest of the Averill Creek crew.
Daniel is a Viticulture and Enology graduate from Lincoln University in New Zealand. He has gained experience working in the Okanagan Valley and he has also completed vintages in New Zealand, working with wineries focused on high quality, small batch, Pinot Noir production. He began winemaking at Averill Creek Vineyard in 2008; born and raised on Vancouver Island, he was excited for the opportunity to work with Pinot Noir so close to home.
Daniel feels that the climate and soils of Averill Creek Vineyard are exceptional for Pinot varietals. He believes that Averill's implementation of sustainable viticulture practices, including dry farming, coupled with a minimal intervention approach in the winery create wines that showcase the vintage and express the terroir of Mt Prevost.
When Terry started in the wine industry nearly 20 years ago there were fewer than 35 wineries in BC. Today there are over 280. "It was an exciting time, we were learning on the fly and trying to obtain as much knowledge as we could regarding viticulture and vineyard management. We all worked in vineyards by day and went to viticulture school in the evenings."
After a number of years of working with Mission Hill Winery, Terry moved to Cedar Creek Winery where he managed their flagship vineyard in Kelowna. There he collaborated with winemaker Tom DiBello developing single-lot Pinot Noir. Terry moved to Vancouver Island in 2013, and very impressed with Andy & Wendy's Vineyard site, he joined the Averill Creek team. "The slope and aspect were perfect, as was the soil." Combine that with Andy's passion for Pinot Noir and the rest is history.
Born and raised in Edmonton, Alberta, Wendy Johnston worked in banking for 20+ years before her switch into the wine industry. Wendy’s extensive financial experience has proven indispensable to Averill Creek as she continues to help establish and grow Averill Creek Vineyard alongside her husband, Andy.
Wendy's love of wine and meeting new people make her an excellent ambassador for the winery. Now serving as the winery representative in Asia, Wendy is often found attending international trade shows and meeting with potential buyers to promote Averill Creek wines in China, Korea & Japan.

Mira joined Averill Creek’s team as assistant winemaker in 2015. Her entry into the wine industry began on Vancouver Island in 2011 where she had the opportunity to see multiple vintages to completion. After working harvests in the Okanagan Valley and Waipara Valley of New Zealand, she is pleased to be on Vancouver Island again making cool climate Pinot Noir and sparkling wines. She holds a bachelor degree in Microbiology from the University of Victoria and has completed a diploma program in Viticulture from Washington State University.
